About the Lovebird

Lovebirds are native to Africa and belong to the genus Agapornis, with several species commonly kept as companion birds. Their name comes from their strong pair bonding behavior, though a single lovebird can also do very well with attentive human care and enrichment.

These parrots are bold, active, and often much more assertive than their small size suggests. Many lovebirds are affectionate and entertaining, but they can also be territorial, vocal, and prone to nipping if poorly socialized or frustrated.

Proper care includes a spacious cage, a balanced diet based mainly on high-quality pellets plus fresh vegetables, limited seeds, and constant access to clean water. They also need chew toys, perches of different sizes, safe opportunities to explore, and regular social interaction to prevent boredom and behavioral problems.

Lovebirds need daily exercise outside the cage in a safe, supervised space so they can climb, flap, and play. Mental exercise is equally important, so puzzle toys, training sessions, and foraging activities should be part of their routine every day.
